Club Statement

Hemel Hempstead Town FC have made no secret of the fact that we wish to continue playing football to a conclusion this season. With this in mind we have today cast our votes on the Special and Ordinary Resolutions to continue or cancel the 2020/21 National League season. Our votes have been cast as below.

Special Resolution 1 - We have voted against this so that the League does not separate steps one and two and that we all move forward together.

Ordinary Resolution 3 - We have voted against this, we are therefore rejecting that the season ends and be made null and void.

Ordinary Resolution 4 - We have voted against this, we are therefore rejecting that the season ends and be made null and void.

As a club we feel that we owe it to our players, fans, sponsors and our Community. Having previously taken National Lottery funding for the first three months of the season, we feel we have to see this through. It would be remiss of us to waste the funding already supplied by not continuing.

We believe that should the National Division continue to play on, but the North and South Divisions stop this will create an even bigger divide/imbalance between steps 1 and 2.

There is also the matter of our status of Elite Sport. Should our season be null and void, there would be a real danger of us losing this status going forward. This is a real privilege to be classed as Elite Sport and as so we should behave like one Without this status we would probably have been treated the same as steps 3-6 and had no football since October.

We are hopeful that with the announcement at the weekend of funded twice weekly club testing that this may be enough to swing some undecided clubs to continue.
