Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of experienced CB David Agbontohoma!

Well known for his height and physicality, David has had a bright pre-season campaign with the Tudors and we're excited to get this one locked in! With league football experience in Arsenal and Southampton academies, David signed his first professional contract with the latter, before a move to Sheffield Wednesday and his debut for the side against Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy in 2021.

"We felt going into the final few weeks of pre-season that we were still a little bit light in the centre of the defence with only three centre-back options - Charlie, David and Isaac - and while we have played Kyran Wiltshire there with success I felt that an out-and-out centre-back was needed. We were looking to add one or two players with a little more experience, and David - despite still only being 24 - has played close to 60 games at the level above, and spent the last two seasons playing in the National League South. I first saw David play when he was at Boreham Wood having signed out of Sheffield Wednesday's academy, and I liked the look of him then. One of the attractions that I like with David is the fact that he has played in both a 3 and 4 at the back, and so he gives the flexibility to adapt if we want to."

"I would say that he has perhaps lost his way a little bit from the confident lad that was doing well under Garrard, and I am confident if we get him back to his best then we have got a good player. He has been part of two sides that are defensively strong in Boreham Wood and Maidstone United and so he knows how to defend properly. He's aggressive, wants to win the ball back and is physically a good size. David came in and played for us earlier in pre-season and impressed, and we have liked the look of what we have seen of him since then. He is willing to work and grasp the opportunity of staying at Step Two, and I'm excited to see how he will develop this term for us.
