Walking Football returns to Vauxhall Road

GREAT RETURN TO COMPETITIVE ACTION FOR THE WALKING FOOTBALLERS IN THE NATIONAL CUP!

In the 50+ category, there was a fantastic return to action with a convincing 6-1 home win over Barnet.

The game was played at Vauxhall Road on Saturday morning, with the goals all being scored by players making their debuts for the team. It was a stunning first half for Robbie Hopkins in particular, netting four times giving the team a 4-0 half-time lead.

All nine members of the squad managed to get minutes, gaining valuable experience in this competition. The second half started very much the same as the first half finished with another debutant Barrie Crane scoring twice in the opening 5 minutes, effectively killing the game off as a contest.

Barnet managed to get a consolation goal with a minute left on the clock. If it weren't for the Barnet keeper making some fantastic saves and some less than clinical finishing, this could easily have been double figures.

This was a great team performance, but a special mention should go to Nigel Morrison as he had five assists and to Paul Church, who then played in the 60+ competition on Sunday morning.

Front Row: Tony Smith, Barrie Crane, Mike Parkes, Paul Church

In the 60+ competition, we were drawn away to Hertford Town on Sunday morning. A very good result for the team coming from behind to win 1-2 with goals scored by Steve Manly and Brian Kemp.

There was a Man of the Match performance from Dave Woolfrey, who has missed most of this year's training through injury. This was another good game for the team, who should have won by more.

Squad: Paul Church, Brian Kemp, Cliff Leat, Steve Manly, Ian McKenzie, Nick Schramm, Dave Woolfrey and Chris York
