SUPPORTERS GUIDE | Hornchurch (A)

The Key Info:

Name: Hornchurch Football Club

Founded: 1923

Manager: Daryl McMahon

Ground: The Hornchurch Stadium

Capacity: 3,500 (800 seated)

A Brief History:

Hornchurch FC were originally founded as Upminster Wanderers, as a local league team before taking on the name Upminster FC in 1938. They moved to Hornchurch Stadium (where they currently still reside) in 1952, renaming themselves Hornchurch & Upminster FC. They reached as high as the Conference South (National League South as it is now known.) but severe financial issues caused the team as it was known to fold in 2005.

Big Moments:

FA Trophy: Hornchurch won the FA Trophy in 2021 after beating National League North side Hereford 3-1 at Wembley to secure the cup. Despite their current league, The Isthmian Premier league being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are still currently the lowest tier team to lift the cup, sitting in the seventh tier at the time of their triumph over 6th tier Hereford.

Winning the Isthmian League Premier Division: The Urchins were crowned champions in the 2023/24 season, after a record breaking 100 points saw them move to the National League South, where they currently still reside.

They will be looking to do one better this year and get promotion to the next level, but with a very competitive league this year and only 9 points separating 7th and 1st - there is no margin for error for anyone chasing the dream of moving up.

As we begin our big run of away games, up first is Hornchurch FC. Hornchurch (at time of writing) currently sit second in the league table, beginning the season with a very comfortable run of form. Sitting top and the table and unbeaten up until November, Hornchurch are still very much the team to beat, with consistency and ability to solidate their spot firmly in playoff positions for the majority of the season, dropping only as low as fourth across 37 games.

It was a night to forget for the Tudors in the reverse fixture, which ended in a 0-4 thrashing at the hands of The Urchins.

This time around however, the Tudors sit in a much nicer position, currently sitting at fifth and top of the form table after winning their last 4 games - they'll be looking to wipe the reverse fixture out of their minds and push themselves further into those playoff semi-final spots.

Hornchurch come into this fixture off the back of a 2-2 draw away at Bath City, a team who currently sit in the relegation zone fighting for their survival, while the Tudors travel to The Hornchurch Stadium after a very comfortable 2-0 victory at home vs a fourteenth AFC Totton.
