Club History:

Chesham United was founded in 1917 following a merger between Chesham Town FC, who were one of the founding members of the Southern League Division 2 in 1897, and Chesham Generals, who took their name from the General Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway. Chesham have always been a club that have amateur football in their identity. Over the course of the 21st century they have been able to rise through the divisions, despite their being many obstacles in their way. The Generals have gone from being in financial turmoil during 2006 to reaching promotion to the National League South in 2024 for the first time in their history. This season Chesham sit 14th in the table after their recent victory over Horsham on the weekend. They look like a team that is slowly becoming more confident and comfortable in this division, which is a huge achievement for the club.

The Managers: James Duncan and Michael Murray

In October 2018, both James Duncan and Michael Murray took over Chesham United when they were sat rock bottom of the Southern Football league Premier Division South. At the end of that 18/19 season both Duncan and Murray had turned The Generals form around to finish 10th in the table. Since their appointment the club has been rising through the divisions to see them in the position they are now. In the lead up to this, they managed their to league victory by nine points in the 2023/2024 season to get to the division they are now. Their first season managing Chesham in the National League South saw them finish 13th.

The Skipper - Steve Brown

Steve Brown has been a leader of this team since he joined in 2018 from Potters Bar, and has been a rock at the back so far for Chesham United. Since he signed in 2018 he made his debut in October of that year, and has stayed ever since. He has made 159 appearances for The Generals, including 13 goals for the defender. His age and experience has made him a long term player and captain for Chesham United.
