Chelmsford City travel to the Focus Community Arena for a National League South Fixture on Tuesday night. You can read about our opponents here:

Chelmsford were formed in 1878 but to become a professional club they had to make the change to Chelmsford City and joined the Southern League in 1938. Chelmsford used City at the end of the football club's name despite only gaining City status in 2012. For years The Clarets were playing in and around the Southern League with promotions and relegations between the Premier Division and Division One.

This was until they transferred to the the Premier Division of the Isthmian League and were able to gain promotion in the 2007-2008 season into the then Conference South. In the next three seasons they made the play-offs but lost each time in the semi-finals. The first time Chelmsford City were able to reach the 2nd round of the FA Cup was in the 2010-2011 season where they lost to Wycombe Wanderers. They managed to match this run in the following two seasons but were defeated both times.

Since the first play-off finish for Chelmsford City in the 2007-2008 season, they have managed to reach the play-offs nine times in the 6th tier of English football but have not managed to get past the variety of teams they have faced.

Chelmsford go into this fixture in fine form as they have won 3 out of their last 5 as they sit 3rd in the table. Chasing promotion, The Clarets have been the best team in the league on the road after taking 33 points out of a possible 48.
