MATCH REPORT | Worthing 4 - 0 Hemel Town

Match report by Allan Mitchell

Lots of cliches could be used to describe this defeat down on the South Coast but ‘A Bad Day at the Office’ is probably the best one to sum things up as The Tudors were well beaten by a very good Worthing side.

Manager Lee Allinson apologised to the supporters who travelled to the game and said he felt that it was just a game too far after his side had performed so well at Wigan and at home to Weston-Super-Mare in the previous seven days. He felt that all of the goals they conceded were avoidable and that the team fell short on the standards they have set this season.

Worthing has never been a happy hunting ground for Hemel and they were hindered by the loss of George Williams and Millar Mathews-Lewis with illness and injury but nobody would have predicted this result before the kick off even with the loss of these two influential players.

The visitors actually had the better of the early chances with Sam Adenola seeing a shot deflected over after a free kick was only half cleared and shortly after, Ade Azeez intercepted a back pass and took the ball past the keeper but he was quickly crowded out and he was tackled before he could get a shot away.

Worthing took the lead on 14 minutes when Joe Cook was allowed to run from the halfway line unchallenged, he slipped the ball through to Brad Dologhan who looked to have been blocked off but he turned his marker before slotting home.

Darion Dowrich felt he should had had a penalty when he was tripped as he raced into the box but the referee deemed that the foul took place just outside the area, It looked a very close call but a free kick was given. Jevani Brown stepped up and curled the ball past a wall that had been allowed to sit no more than six yards from the kick but it crashed off the post and was cleared.

Dologhan somehow missed a great cross from the right with the goal gaping before Hemel gifted Worthing with a second goal on 40 minutes when Teddy Jenks dispossessed a defender and raced into the box, he unselfishly laid it across to Dologhan who sidestepped Michael Johnson before calmly slotting the ball home.

The second half followed the pattern of the first with Worthing controlling possession and could have gone further in front when the dangerous Dologhan forced a good save out of Johnson early on.

The home side got their third just before the hour mark when George Cox got to the byline before firing a cross to that back post where his fellow full back Joel Coltrane was waiting and he made no mistake slotting home from close range.

Both sides made several substitutions in the final half hour which affected the game somewhat and it looked as though Worthing were content to hold on to what they had whilst Hemel failed to create anything of note.

Deep into injury time, The Rebels caught Hemel’s back line out with a quick counter attack, Nicky Wheeler raced forward and forced Johnson into a good save but the Tudors keeper could only parry the ball out to Tom King who made no mistake to complete the scoring on an afternoon to forget for the Tudors.

Attendance: 2118

Tudors Man of the Match: Michael Johnson, made several great saves to deny Worthing an even bigger margin of victory.
