MATCH REPORT | Slough Town 0 - 1 Hemel Town

Match Report by Allan Mitchell

After a number of years with little success at Arbour Park The Tudors made it back to back victories, matching the result of last season when they ended a long unbeaten home run for the Rebels.

The winning goal came quite early in the game when a whipped cross from Samuel Adenola found the head of Miller Mathews-Lewis who was unlucky to see it hit the underside of the bar before bouncing down and out but Joe White reacted superbly and knocked the ball home from close range to give the visitors the perfect start.

White almost doubled the lead just a couple of minutes later when he took advantage of a mistake at the back, he was forced out slightly wide but he still managed to drive his shot in but Desbois just managed to get his fingertips to it, tipping it past the post.

Hemel were now in the ascendancy with Kyran Wiltshire and Jake Gray both going close and it looked like it would be only a matter of time before they added a second goal but it didn’t come and as the half wore on Slough finally started to get a foothold in the game.

They forced a series of corners and with the two giant Greenidge brothers in the Rebels side it was a tough end to the first period but the Tudors backline held firm and they went into the break a goal to the good.

The second half saw Hemel continue to battle hard and keep Slough at bay whilst looking dangerous on the counter.

On 56 minutes Mathews-Lewis showed some excellent skills down the left, he drove inside close to the line, sidestepped  a couple of defenders before laying the ball back to Jake Gray who looked up and curled a shot past Desbois and onto the top of the bar.

Goddard had Slough’s best chance of the game when he received the ball inside the box after a quick free kick caught the Tudors out, he saw that Michael Johnson was off his line and tried to chip the ball over him but Johnson reacted superbly tipping it over the bar.

Finley Wilkinson could have put the game to bed when he played a quick one/two before racing through the middle, Desbois closed him down quickly but Wilkinson still managed to clip his shot past him but it drifted just past the post.

With a minute of normal time left on the clock Johnson saved a goal bound effort again, tipping the ball over the bar to ensure the points were heading back to Hertfordshire, The Tudors seeing the seven remaining minutes of injury time out relatively comfortably.
