Hemel Hempstead Town 3 Hornchurch 1
Vanarama National League South 10/03/25
Match report by Allan Mitchell
The Tudors made it three wins on the bounce with a clinical performance against Hornchurch on a chilly Monday evening at the Focus Community Arena.
We have tended to make a somewhat slow start to games in recent weeks but this time the boys came out of the traps very quickly, taking the lead after just 8 minutes when Mazeed Ogungbo met a George Williams corner after arriving unmarked in the six yard box.
After a couple of close chances and with the Tudors dominating the early exchanges they went further in front on 21 minutes. Miller Matthews-Lewis cut inside from the left before driving a powerful shot in from the edge of the box, it was only parried away by the keeper and Brandon Barzey was on hand to tuck the ball home from close range.

Hornchurch finally found their feet after struggling to get out of their own half and the game settled down somewhat although Barzey was unlucky not to add a third goal just before the break when his drive from the edge of the box clipped the top of the crossbar.
The second half saw Hemel come out in much the same way as they started the first, taking the game to the Urchins.
They finally added a third goal on 54 minutes when Oli Lynch was sent through the middle of the park, he calmly rounded the keeper before slotting the ball home.

The game became more open as Hornchurch tried to salvage something from the game and they reduced the deficit on the hour mark when Hearn took advantage of some hesitant defending to cut inside and fire into the bottom corner.
The Visitors No 9 who had come on as a sub was proving to be bit of a handful and he forced Brad House into an excellent save minutes later as the Urchins suddenly found some urgency but unfortunately he succumbed to an injury on 70 minutes and with all their substitutions having been made, Hornchurch went down to ten men for the remaining 20 minutes or so.
Lynch forced an excellent save out of the keeper when he was sent through one on one and he did have the ball in the net in the 87th minute but the linesman had his flag up and the goal was ruled out.

After making five substitutions the game fizzled out towards the end and the Tudors picked up another three points, a result that moved them into the top half of the table and within touching distance of the final play off place. It would be a tough ask but Lee Allinson said after he was delighted with where the club is now especially after the free fall earlier in the season. We are certainly heading in The right direction, let’s see where we end up.
