MATCH REPORT | Hemel Town 3 - 0 Weston-Super-Mare

Written by Allan Mitchell

A seriously impressive performance from the Tudors saw them slip into third place in the Enterprise National League South and it has to be said it was completely deserved as they dominated proceedings throughout.

After the heartbreak and efforts against Wigan in the FA Cup on Saturday there was a worry that there might be a bit on a hangover coming into this game against a Weston side who were sitting in second place and were the only team in the division who matched Hemel’s goals against stats so far this season, conceding only nine in their thirteen games played.

Any doubts that the home side would struggle were soon put to bed as they forced the visitors back straight from the start. Indeed, the Tudors could and probably should have been two goals up after ten minutes when firstly a cross in from the right found Millar Mathews Lewis unmarked in the six yard box but he could only put his header straight at Max Harris and shortly after another great ball in found George Williams who stooped low to get a header in but once again it was close to Harris who parried it before grabbing it at the second attempt.

Ade Azeez did have the ball in the net on thirteen minutes but the flag went up for offside before Mathews-Lewis tried his luck from just outside the box but his effort skidded just wide.

Hemel finally broke the deadlock in injury time of the first half when a corner was only half cleared to Samuel Adenola who hit it first time through a crowd of players into the back of the net. It was no more than Hemel deserved and they went into the break a goal to the good.

The second half continued much in the same way as the first with Hemel dominating the game, Mathews-Lewis did well to get past his marker but he couldn’t get a shot away and the loose ball was cleared.

The Tudors went two up when a corner was played short to Darion Dowrich who clipped it across to Kyle Ajayi who looped his header over Harris into the far corner of the net.

There was a bit of handbags between Ade Azeez and Jason Pope on the edge of the box that saw both players receive a red card, reducing the teams to ten men just past the hour mark.

Hemel continued to control the game as Weston offered little in attack and there were chances for George Williams, who saw his well struck shot saved at full stretch by Harris and Finlay Wilkinson had a shot deflected wide as the Tudors kept the pressure up.

They were rewarded on 83 minutes when Isiah Noel-Williams got on the end a quick free kick and slotted the ball coolly past Harris to complete the scoring and send out a message to the rest of the division that the Tudors are serious contenders this season.
