Hemel just 2 strong for Knebworth.

Another brilliant match today between two great sides and another fantastic effort from our girls. We knew we had to be at our best once again as for the second time in 7 days we found ourselves playing the top team but we knew that a win today would leapfrog ourselves into 1st position.

We appeared to start a bit slow again this morning but this seems to be the Hemel way. However once we got going we started to apply the pressure and we tested their keeper early on. Knebworth are a fantastic side and they had a lot of possession in our half but they rarely tested Hannah in goal.

Half time was 0-0 and it was about right although we did have some better chances and their keeper was up to the challenge today.

The second half kicked off and we started to play much better and we had more possession in their half. A corner from Amy M on the left led to our first goal. Her corner kick was only half cleared straight back to her and she drilled the ball back into the area where Lucy was there to stab the ball home, 1-0. Our tails were up but to be fair Knebworth didn't give up and they were pressing us for the equaliser.

It was end to end for most of the second half and we knew we needed another goal to make sure of victory and how crucial it was when it finally game. It was another corner this time taken by Amy P on the right and for once in this match their outstanding keeper made a mistake. She fumbled the ball at the near post and there was Lucy again to knock it in, 2-0. With seconds to play our girls thought it was all over and Knebworth got a goal back straight from the kick off but luckily it was too little too late.

It finished 2-1 but for much of that second half it was hearts in mouths time as we clung on to our slender lead but saying that we did have the more clear cut chances so I think we just deserved the victory (all be it a bit biased). This result sees us go top with a game in hand over Knebworth and we must keep up our good form to try to hold on to first place. Next week we're away to St Albans so good luck Hemel, this could be our season.

Finally, player of the match was Hannah who was fantastic in goal once again and thanks to all the friends and families for your great support.
