Comeback boy's show quality in second half display
( Inset ) Penalty scorer SAM ELVERY
What a game.
The Blues today pulled a three goal deficit into a draw that would have pleased the watching England manager. L.O.L
The only thing that went wrong today was the set up against the league leaders.
Kicking off playing 3 at the back went completely wrong for the boy's as we suffered conceding two goals in the first half against a strong wind and a 2 up front attack from the Oxhey lads.
I soon changed it to 4-4-2 but was it too late ?
The first 15 minutes was football at it's best , but what was to follow in the second half was simply class.
PHIUCH was outstanding at the back along with UMAR and BILLY. It was however to much for them to handle as OXHEY showed class all over the pitch. I could see my mistake and soon changed the formation to get a more balanced team on the pitch. From then on it was masterful. We all make mistakes , including myself, but correcting things is my job.
Another goal conceded on 37 minutes should have been it for most teams, but we never gave up against the leaders as we started to turn the screw. We were getting round the defence and slowly caused the leaders problem after problem. Only some stern defending and wayward shots preventing us going into halftime with a couple of goals.
The introduction of our leading goal scorer TOM half way through the half nearly created the perfect substitution when he blasted well wide on goal.
OHENE also had a couple of good chances which frew over, but he looked strong and sure of himself today. EREN once again showed his power in midfield with some direct passing. He just seems to be getting better with each game after his long term health concerns.
We were watching a team growing in belief as the clock ticked by. To do that being three goals takes great guts. Never say die attitude was there to be seen throughout the first 40 minutes.
New signing KANE was finding life difficult with his first start on the right, but i'm sure giving the lad time on the pitch and confidence he can do a job to us. Unfortunately we needed more pace so he was substituted late in the first half.
RYAN was another player who impressed today with his hard work along with DALEY at the back . The two of them were getting in where it hurts and creating a block in the JETS forward play. So from midfield to defence we were looking a footballing side. One that was going to worry many a team in this league.
Some great keeping from our big keeper DREW and solid defending eased our worries and frustrated the opposition.
Oxhey are a very good side. Very good. They have power and strength all over the park. So if that's what they have, we must have battlers and brains.
So the first half ends being 3-0 down, but I applauded them off for a display of togetherness. I didn't want to see anyone down as at half time I let them know that this game was far from over, We may have not been the better team with the high standards of a top team, but it was now time to get back on the pitch and keep playing our football. If ever I was in doubt with any player it was time for them to prove me wrong .

Now the fun starts.
We go out buzzing. We all knew that we could get back into the game and so we did. I don't really understand however where the wind went though. Bitterly cold though. Once again we showed incredible strength going forward and 10 minutes into the second half we get that crucial goal. And what a team effort this was. After closing the JETS down at the other end we worked the ball forward with clinical passing . DALEY plays a neat pass out of defence to TOM W. He turns and plays a super ball to EREN. EREN takes on his man and pushes forward to release OHENE on goal. He loses out to a great defending tackle but who's there to accurately side foot a shot from just inside the area to find the net and pass the diving keeper. BILLY HOPKINS. Great goal.
DREW was then called into action at the other end to defy a certain goal with a backwards save. This game was now exciting as we could feel a comeback.
Attack after attack. You just couldn't keep your eyes off this one. One way then the other. We were now so confident in what we were doing we were trying things that came off. GOALLLLLLL.
RYAN finds the net at the far corner that flies into the net. I feel the keeper maybe at fault , but when it hits the net who cares. RYAN found two defenders on him and under pressure to pass the ball back, but he turns and strikes the ball. 2-3 and still time to turn up a gear.
We were now on top and the better side. OXHEY were not getting there own way. We weren't phased with them being unbeaten and sitting at the top looking down at the others. They were in for a game of football. We were out matching there every move. Yes, they still pressured us because they are a class team, but we battled. We were now winning free kicks. Winning corners. Winning one on ones.
With SAM E pushed up we then get awarded a penalty when the big forward runs onto a through ball. With two defenders either side of him in pursuit he gets pulled down in the box PENALTY. Correct decision.
SAM ELVERY picks himself up and places the ball on the spot. I looked the other way as I heard the boy's cheer. Bang down the middle and from being 3-0 down we've clawed ourselves back into the game.
Still time on the clock. 10 minutes in fact. We push for the winner. BRIAN then gets free on goal only to be flagged offside. Well I didnt think so. Then our striker beats the offside trap only to see his shot go agonisingly wide of the post A couple of more substitutions and we almost pull it off, Again BRIAN'S speed sets him off on the left. He cuts into the box and fires at the keeper with no-one else up.
The final whistle blows and our proud boy's have done it. Not won it, but came back for a well deserved point.
Well done to you all.
NEXT WEEK WE ARE AWAY TO THE WHITES. Well home realty. We won't underestimate them. They are not higher than us for any reason. They must be buzzing also after today's win.
So a good W/E for all our boy's. Reds 3-3 Blues 3-3 and the Whites winning 5-4 away. Looks like an exciting week-end ahead.
Bring it on.
