Brave Comeback

Well Deserved Draw

What a game today.

We knew that the bad weather would play a part in today's fixture and with only 10 players available, it was going to be a hard game for our girls however with the girls very excited to be wearing the new kit for the first time, anything could happen.
Ellie H (C) won the toss and elected to play against the wind for the first half so we knew that we had to defend the best we could for the first 40 minutes. Kings Langley went 2-0 up in the first half but for some brave goal keeping from Molly plus a missed penalty, it could have been more. However, we weren't short of chances ourselves and when the referee spotted a handball in their area he was about to give us a penalty but chose to play the advantage and Emma was unlucky not to score. Lily also shot just wide from a free kick from just outside the area.

It was only 2-0 at half time and we knew that with the wind behind us, we had a chance to get back into this game. Charmain reduced the deficit early in the 2nd half. It came about after a corner taken by Emma caused a scramble in Kings Langley's area in which a brave header from Kaila, which hit the bar, eventually fell to Charmain who cooly slotted the ball home. The girls heads were up and going for the equaliser but Kings Langley managed to break away at the other end and restored their 2 goal advantage. There were chances at both ends and it was a very exciting game however with the wind behind Hemel, most of the possession was in Kings Langley's half.

We then got a contentious free kick just outside the area but Charmaine didn't care and she smashed the ball into the back of the net, great goal, but the best was yet to come. We were pushing for the equaliser and with just 3 minutes to go Emma controlled the ball from about 20 yards out, took a touch and drove the ball into the bottom left hand corner that sent the away fans (parents and her mum) into great jubilation.

A well deserved equaliser with only 10 players but overall it was a great competitive game that left a few of our girls with some knocks and bruises but credit to them as they picked themselves up and carried on to the end. They showed great spirit, teamwork and determination today and every single one of them should be proud of themselves. Any of the 10 players out there could have got the girl of the match award but, as it was, Kaila was superb on the right wing today and was a well deserved winner of the so mentioned award.

On to next week and if we can keep this spirit in the team going, who knows how far we can get in this division, well done girls.
