Hemel Hempstead Business Ambassadors gathered for their last meeting of 2017 at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, on Thursday 23 November, to hear from several exciting speakers on the latest developments taking place within Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding areas – including a detailed analysis of the new Local Plan for Dacorum, a key document in shaping the future of the borough.
The historic Jellicoe Water Gardens in Hemel Hempstead have won a prestigious landscape award in recognition of its outstanding restoration. Working with landscape architects HTA Design, Dacorum Borough Council restored the beloved Water Gardens, which reopened in July this year. Last week, the Water Gardens won the Heritage and Conservation Landscape Institute Award for, “the preservation and comprehensive restoration of a significant mid-20th century design”. The Institute added: “Our judges were excited to see post-1945 landscape design, which is often overlooked in terms of its heritage, in this category. They praised the HTA team’s thorough research and analysis, describing the project as ‘ground-breaking’.”
Councillor Graham Sutton, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration, said, “It’s fantastic that the Water Gardens restoration has been recognised as an exemplary project. So much hard work went into restoring the much-loved gardens for the enjoyment of the local community. It is thanks to the hard work of HTA Design and dedication of the Friends of the Jellicoe Water Gardens that we have been able to return the gardens back to their former glory. “We are also very grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund/Big Lottery Fund who made the restoration possible.”
The Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund contributed more than £2.4 million, and we provided more than £1 million.
